Chicago Couple Charged with Defrauding Foreclosure Clients
It never pays to lie and defraud as one high-powered couple in Chicago have learned the hard way this month.
Philip Igoe, 61, is an attorney in Chicago that has been charged with defrauding clients to came to him for foreclosure protection. To make matters worse, his wife, Stacy Igoe, 45, will also receive federal charges for lying to protect him. He now faces six counts of
bankruptcy fraud, one count of mail fraud and one count of obstruction of justice.
According to the U.S. State Attorney's office Stacy was also charged with one count of bankruptcy fraud, as well as one count of obstruction of justice and two counts of perjury. The pair will be arraigned later on in U.S. District Court.
In the federal indictment against the Igoes the government writes that Philip lured potential customers to him by promising to save their homes from foreclosure if they filed for bankruptcy or loan modification. He took their money and promised to use it to make payments for mortgages or Chapter 13 bankruptcy plans; instead he took the money for personal use.
