Former Chicago Mayor Files for Bankruptcy
Former East Chicago Mayor Robert Pastrick received bad news this week when a federal trustee said that he would be denied for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
Pastrick, 83, was told that his income is too high to qualify for this type of bankruptcy. This comes after the state has been trying to collect over $100 million from him in a civl lawsuit for racketeering. The former mayor was elected of over three decades, however his secretive sidewalks-for-votes campaign was finally unearthed during the 1999 Democratic mayoral primary election.
The trustee overlooking his case suspects foul play in the bankruptcy filing and has stated so in federal court documents. He has thirty days to either file a motion to dismiss the Chapter 7 bankruptcy case or to convert it to a different category. Under his current category Patrick would not have to pay back his creditors.
