Marie Callenders To Shut Down Restaurants

Court records show that the owner of Marie Callenders and Perkins restaurants will shut down 65 of its 600 locations across the country.
The company recently announced its decision to file forbankruptcy, blaming a weak economy for poor sales. This decision will effectively eradicate the investment of Castle Harlan Inc., a private investor that sunk $245 million into the company by purchasing the Perkins chain in 2005. The same group acquired the Marie Callender Restaurant and Bakery Chain just a month later for the sum of $140 million.
Commenting on his company's bankruptcy filing, Joseph Trungale, president of both companies, said that states hit the hardest by the economy, such as California and Florida, weakened the company the most over the past few years.
